When she was audited by the Medicare progra min 2007, Medicare denied her claims for reimbursement regardingf these 39 beneficiaries and requestex that she repay $6,840 for non-covered servicew that had been previously paid to her. Stafforfd challenged this and as part of her effortz to avoid payingthe overpayment, Stafford created new treatment recordse for those 39 patientds in 2007, back-dating them to 2004, using fraudulenft treatment information and claiming that she had provided theses patients with podiatric surgical procedure, prosecutors said.
